C5 Consortium Members Kick off the Project in Córdoba

Partners met at the University of Córdoba to share and discuss how to engineering cyanobacteria that can produce isoprene.

On 18 and 19 November, the C5 consortium got together at the University of Córdoba, which is leading the project, for the kickoff meeting. The event started with a warm welcome from the coordinator and a round of introductions.

After, the project officer, Adelina Nicolaie, gave a detailed presentation about all the different tools and resources available for projects funded by the European Innovation Council, like C5.

It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to dive into the plans for metabolic engineering of cyanobacteria

During the meeting, each partner had a chance to share their background, experience, and their specific roles in the project, including what work packages they’ll be handling. The team covered everything from the nitty-gritty of project management to the more technical details, like building a synthetic organelle to improve CO2 fixation and boost isoprene production in cyanobacteria.

There was also plenty of time for mingling and getting to know each other. One of the highlights was a guided tour of the Mezquita-Catedral of Córdoba, which is one of the city’s most famous landmarks and made for a great backdrop for conversation.

The C5 team was hosted by Maria Agustina Dominguez-Martin, the project coordinator, along with her colleagues at the University of Córdoba: Henning Kirst, Daniel Murphy, and Yesica Melero Rubio.

Also joining were members from four other European partners: Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (Germany), Wageningen University Research (Netherlands), the University of Leiden, and INsociety (Italy).

With everyone on the same page, the consortium is all set to dive into the exciting science and development work ahead.
